THE FRONT

THE FRONT

THE FRONT, WILYABRUP, SOUTH WESTERN AUSTRALIA.

A powerful cold front batters the coast at Wilyabrup bringing heavy rain and gale force winds. This section of the Cape to Cape track is particularly stunning in the winter. When a storm comes through, the rocks are constantly pounded by the heaving ocean and the melaleuca bend to the will of the wind. The isolated houses offer the only real shelter for kilometres around, leaving just you and the raw power of nature for company.

When you venture out in these conditions you never know quite what you're in for. Because you have to hike in quite a way, you must be prepared to weather several of these cold fronts before a single shot is taken. Even then, with so much wind and ocean spray it can be quite difficult to get a clean shot. It does make you feel alive though, and the results can be breathtaking. Best bring a good rain coat.
